Six Impact.com alternatives for SaaS programs under 1,000 partners
Impact does a serious job at enterprise scale. For most SaaS programs it's overkill — paid like enterprise, configured like enterprise, locked in like enterprise. Here are six alternatives sized for the program you actually run.
Impact.com (formerly Impact Radius) is the platform that big consumer brands and large SaaS use when they need a partnerships engine they can run thousands of partners on. It does that well. It is also six figures a year, configured by their CSM team, takes months to roll out, and the data lives inside their platform on a contract you renew yearly.
If you’re running an affiliate or partner program with fewer than 1,000 partners — which covers nearly every SaaS until it’s at $50M+ ARR — Impact is the wrong shape. Not because it’s bad. Because it’s priced and operated for a different problem.
This post is a quick tour of six alternatives sized for the program you actually run.
What you actually need at this stage
Before the comparison: a SaaS partner program under 1,000 partners typically needs to
- Track clicks, attribute conversions to partners, and survive Safari/cross-device
- Handle commission rules including recurring SaaS revenue
- Pay partners (Stripe Connect, PayPal, or wire — usually one is enough)
- Surface analytics to both the brand and the partners
- Optionally connect to a marketplace for partner discovery
What it doesn’t need: a CSM, a six-month implementation, a managed-services SOW, or a $60K/year contract. If a vendor leads with those, they’re selling to a different buyer.
The six alternatives
1. OpenPartner
The platform we build. Open-source core (MIT-licensed, self-hostable), four attribution models with re-derivation, direct Stripe Connect payouts, three integration paths (server SDK, outbound webhooks, partner postbacks), and a built-in marketplace called the Network. $0/month on Revshare or $49/month + 1.5% on Flex.
Best fit: SaaS that bills on Stripe and wants the option to self-host or migrate later without rebuilding from CSV.
2. Tolt
Modern hosted affiliate tool. Stripe-native, fast onboarding, polished partner portal. Last-click attribution, hosted-only, closed source.
Best fit: Early SaaS that needs to ship a referral program this week and isn’t going to outgrow last-click anytime soon. Read the direct comparison.
3. Affonso
Multi-PSP affiliate platform — Stripe, Paddle, Polar, Creem, Dodo. White-label portal, i18n, tax-form collection. Closed source, hosted-only, €15/month entry.
Best fit: SaaS billing on Paddle/Polar/Creem/Dodo that needs tax forms and white-label out of the box. Read the direct comparison.
4. FirstPromoter
The indie-SaaS default for the last decade. PayPal-first payouts, simple setup, mature product. Last-click attribution, hosted-only, flat-rate tiers.
Best fit: Programs with global partners on PayPal where simplicity beats depth. Read the direct comparison.
5. Rewardful
Stripe-native referral platform with strong founder UX. Custom commission rules, Stripe Connect payouts, simple integration. Last-click, hosted-only.
Best fit: Stripe-billing SaaS that wants Tolt-shaped product without Tolt’s positioning. We have a dedicated page comparing it directly.
6. PartnerStack
Closer to Impact in shape — full partner relationship management with marketplace, commission management, and partner success tooling. Priced and operated for mid-market B2B SaaS, typically $1K–$5K/month + GMV.
Best fit: B2B SaaS at $5M–$50M ARR running formal partner programs (resellers, agencies, MSPs) where partner-success workflows matter as much as attribution.
A pricing sanity-check
Round numbers for a SaaS doing $200K/year in partner-driven GMV (a real but mid-sized program):
- Impact.com: $40K–$80K/year base + revshare. Custom contract.
- PartnerStack: $20K–$40K/year base + percentage.
- OpenPartner Flex: $588/year + 1.5% of $200K = $3,588/year. Or 3% on Revshare = $6,000/year and no monthly.
- Tolt / Affonso / FirstPromoter / Rewardful: $500–$3,000/year depending on tier and partner count.
Impact and PartnerStack are 5–10× the alternatives at this scale. They earn that price when you have a partner team running 5,000 partners across 10 program types. They don’t earn it for a SaaS with 80 affiliates and three resellers.
The wedge question
Before choosing: what’s one thing your current setup can’t do that’s costing you revenue? Pick the platform that fixes that thing.
- “Partners are dropping off because PayPal payouts take 14 days” → FirstPromoter’s payout cadence or OpenPartner’s Stripe Connect transfers
- “Safari conversions aren’t tracking” → OpenPartner’s Identity stitching
- “Performance affiliates want S2S postbacks” → OpenPartner’s partner postbacks
- “We bill on Paddle” → Affonso
- “We need a managed marketplace and CSM-led recruiting” → PartnerStack or Impact (and budget for it)
- “We just need anything that tracks clicks and pays affiliates” → Tolt, Rewardful, or OpenPartner Revshare
The wrong answer is “Impact, because it’s the most respected name.” Reputation isn’t a feature your program needs.
If OpenPartner is the right shape, start on Revshare with no monthly fee.
